Hollywood breakups can seem like a dime a dozen. Sometimes costars fall trap to a whirlwind romance on set, then quickly call it quits after production wraps. Other times it’s a matter of rushing into marriage too young. Then, for other dismantled matches, we can turn to the celestial skies for some insight. While there were probably many factors at work in the case of the following five soured celebrity romances, it’s also possible the zodiac worked against them from the start. Each celeb's sun sign traits offers clues about how these six much-publicized and ill-matched pairings may have ultimately met their demise.

Miley Cyrus (Sagittarius) and Liam Hemsworth (Capricorn)
Given Miley's escalating antics over the past year, there might not be too much mystery as to why she and Liam called off their engagement (yes, twerking may have been a factor). As side-by-side zodiac signs, which are not classically compatible, this romance may have been a bit of an uphill battle from the get-go. A calculated, serious Capricorn can have a tough time tolerating a Sag's playful, at times unruly, sense of adventure, while an impulsive Archer can get annoyed with a cautious Cap acting like her elder. Another issue that may have had the planets stacked against these young lovers: Both signs are very driven in their own ways (Sags are known to be hungry for fame and glory, and Cap is considered the zodiac’s work horse, motivated by accomplishments). Miley and Liam may have been influenced to prioritize their blossoming careers over their relationship.

What do the stars say about your past relationships?

Kris (Scorpio) and Bruce Jenner (Scorpio)
Although Kris and Bruce may have appeared kooky and fun loving on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, double Scorpios traditionally make for an extremely intense match. Scorpios are known for being emotional and serious, and are thought to be most vindictive sign of the zodiac. When they were together, Kris and Bruce likely appreciated the way their similar tendencies helped them understand each other, but this pairing tends to run hot and cold, creating a great deal of pressure that can eventually explode. Even though Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, it's still a Fixed sign and, therefore, both parties may have been reluctant to back down during conflict. Ultimately, without enough give and take, this combination may have produced spouses who were too demanding, too willing to hold grudges, and, eventually, too resentful to maintain true happiness together.

Heidi Klum (Gemini) and Seal (Pisces)
After seven years together (and nearly as many elaborate vow renewal ceremonies), this couple suddenly threw in the towel. Heidi reportedly blamed Seal’s temper for the split (maybe the byproduct of Pisces’ teeming emotions), while Seal implied that Heidi had been unfaithful (which, if true, could be attributed to Gemini’s general quest for the next new thing). These signs typically make an excellent sexual match, as both partners are interested in being experimental and imaginative—a subject Klum and Seal were never shy about. However, their shared Mutability could translate to them both being a bit scattered. It could also be that, as a rational, analytical Gemini, Heidi clashed with her dreamy, sensitive Pisces mate. If both partners weren’t willing to see things from the other's point of view, things may have gotten tense. Without mutual empathy for their differences, Heidi and Seal might have discovered they simply grew out of touch with each another over time.

Tom Cruise (Cancer) and Katie Holmes (Sagittarius)
Off the bat a Cancer-Sagittarius match-up can pose a number of obstacles, which probably made it challenging for the TomKat era to last as long as it did. Cancers like Tom tend to prepare for worst-case scenarios, whereas Sags like Katie are usually optimistic. Cancers crave partnership—and can be total homebodies—while Sags desire independence and love to travel (which could explain Katie’s foray into the jet-set fashion lifestyle). In a Cancer-Sagittarius match, both partners need to grow and change to accommodate the other's needs, often operating outside their comfort zones. With that, this pairing may have been more realistic for a short fling. The attraction between a Crab and an Archer can fizzle out once the honeymoon stage of the relationship ends.

Brad Pitt (Sagittarius) and Jennifer Aniston (Aquarius)
Even though this pair of a-listers announced their split more than nine years ago, their storied reign as Hollywood's "it" couple continues to draw speculation. While these signs are thought to be reasonably compatible, particularly in the way they both value independence, the freedom in this relationship may have become too much of a good thing. In addition, a passionate, impulsive Sagittarius may feel out of touch with an intellectual Aquarius, who is more of an objective thinker than a feeler. Yet Jennifer’s famous quote in a '05 Vanity Fair article about her ex missing a "sensitivity chip" is a typical complaint from partners of somewhat self-involved Fire signs like Sag. As for Jennifer, her Aquarian tendency towards autonomy may have rendered her too aloof for even her Sagittarian hubby. (Notably, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake as well as Taylor Swift and Harry Styles were also Sagittarius-Aquarius matches.)
